Colombo is a city that rewards curiosity far more than its transit-point reputation suggests. The capital sprawls across the western coast from the colonial Fort district north to the old bazaars of Pettah and south to the trendy café zones of Colombo 3 and 7. Galle Face Green — a vast ocean-front esplanade — fills at sunset with families, street food vendors, and kite flyers, one of Asia's great free public spaces.
